TL;DR
- A patent Google filed at WIPO back in 2021 was published today.
- The patent reveals a Galaxy Z Fold-like phone with rather large-looking bezels.
- It appears that Google plans to use the bezel as a place to put a selfie camera.
From postponements to claims about its size, there have been numerous rumors swirling around Google’s anticipated foldable phone. However, a recently published patent seems to at least confirm a rumor about the device and the unique placement of one of its cameras.
Although nothing official has been seen to date, it’s known that Google has been working on a foldable device of its own. Believed to be called the Pixel Notepad or Pixel Fold, a patent for the device was just published today.
Originally filed at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) back in 2021, according to 91Mobiles, the drawings reveal a phone that looks not that far off from Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold. Based on the images found by 91Mobiles, like the Galaxy Z Fold, Google’s foldable may have a tablet-like form with a similar hinge.
What’s notable in these patent drawings however is the device’s display. It appears that the phone may end up having rather thick-looking bezels compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 4. In addition, it looks like Google plans on using the top bezel as a place to put a selfie camera.
This patent seems to confirm a leak we reported earlier this month that claimed the phone would have a small selfie camera positioned on the frame. The leak also claimed that the back of the Pixel foldable is in line with the Pixel 7. Unfortunately, none of the patent images show the back of the device.
