TL;DR

  • Sony has announced a surprise Xperia launch event scheduled for later this month.
  • There’s no word on what device will make an appearance.
  • The event is penned for October 26.

You might’ve thought Sony wrapped up launching new Xperia products after its flagships and mid-rangers arrived earlier this year. However, it seems the company has a surprise up its sleeve. Sony has now confirmed that a new Xperia product will be unveiled later this month.

In a Twitter post published on Tuesday, the company revealed the date and time of the launch but shared few other details. Although the teaser image is reminiscent of light falling on a camera lens, it arguably presents more questions than answers.

Notably, Sony announced the Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III back in April, while the Xperia 10 III followed soon after. For the past few release cycles, these three devices have constituted the bulk of Sony’s smartphone roster. If this is a new smartphone launch, it’s possible it could be from a new series. Of course, there’s no evidence that this Xperia product will be a smartphone at all.

Either way, the company will satisfy our curiosity at its October 26 event, scheduled for a 12 AM JST (11 PM ET) start. Until then, let us know what you think Sony’s next Xperia product will be in the comments below.
