New WhatsApp call upgrade to include picture-in-picture mode | Digit

All WhatsApp calls are end-to-end encrypted. One of these features remains in beta testing for iOS. List of improved calling features on WhatsApp.

Meta-owned WhatsApp is not used by people only for the good-old sending messages. It has also garnered a lot of popularity in making calls or having video calls. It has also recently launched a lot of features to make connecting over calls easier.

The first one of these features is 32-person calls wherein at one point you can call up to 32 people which is 4x the previous number.

The second feature is one wherein you can long press on a participant to enlarge their video or audio feed. Once that is done, while the call goes on, you can either mute them or message the specific participant.

The third feature is, while initially it only used to be websites like Zomm, GMeet or Microsoft eams, among others wherein you could make a link for future meetings, that feature has now been made available even in WhatsApp.

New WhatsApp call upgrades

There are two more features other than the ones already mentioned. The first feature is of the ‘Colorful Waveforms’ wherein you can see who is speaking if their camera is off. The second one is where there is a ‘Banner Notification’ to indicate whenever someone joins a new call.

There is another feature which is in beta testing for iOS and is expected to roll out in 2023 which is the picture-in-picture feature which can help users to multitask better.

This is to remind our readers that calls on WhatsApp are also end-to-end encrypted. To those unaware, this is a step taken to ensure that only the sender and the receiver/s of a message are able to read or listen to it. Your messages are technically secured with a lock and only the sender and receiver/s have the key to access it. No additional settings need to be toggled with to secure messages.
