Newly launched OnePlus Nord 2 explodes; company investigating issue – Times of India

The newly-launched OnePlus Nord 2 officially became available from July 28, 2021 in India and within a couple of days a user in Bengaluru claimed that the phone exploded. Unlike other incidents of mobile phone exploding, the OnePlus Nord 2 was not put on charging and the device is claimed to have exploded inside a sling bag during a bike ride. The user, who goes by the name Ankur Sharma, in a tweet which has now been deleted shared that the phone belonged to his wife and that she even met with an accident while riding due to the phone exploding.
Ankur’s tweet quickly grabbed the attention of smartphone enthusiasts across India and soon after OnePlus responded to it. Ankur deleted the tweet after OnePlus’ response. As per the tweet, the OnePlus Nord 2 was just 5 days old. The company hasn’t provided an official statement to the media but it said that is looking into the matter and trying to “make amends and turn this around” for the user.

As described by the victim, there was no physical interference with the device that may have caused the incident. “All of a sudden the phone blasted and smoke started to come out of it. Due to this blast, she met with an accident.”

The OnePlus Nord 2 was launched just a couple weeks back and the device has just started to go on sale. While incidents like this can be scary, there’s very little reason to believe that OnePlus Nord 2 is not a ‘safe’ phone to use. Phones from Samsung, Apple, Huawei and other brands have also caught fire and exploded. In fact, some models of Apple MacBook and Galaxy Note 7 smartphone have been earlier banned from flights. This was done after these companies issued a recall of these devices as some models posed fire safety risk.
