Nokia’s new Android phone gets flagship features at a price that’s hard to believe

Nokia is shaking up the Android smartphone market with a new feature-packed new handset that won’t leave a huge hole in your bank account. The famous phone brand, which is now owned and operated by HMD Global, has announced its new G50, which lands with a giant 6.8-inch screen and triple camera for under £200. And that’s not even the best part.

Nokia has also included 5G compatibility, making this the cheapest device ever launched by the firm with this clever tech tucked inside. If you weren’t already aware, 5G offers ludicrously fast downloads when away from your home Wi-Fi connection.

In fact, it’s easily possible to download files to devices at speeds in excess of 300Mbps – at that rate, you could download a full HD movie in just a couple of minutes over 5G. That means you’ll be able to make video calls, download boxsets and play online multiplayer on the train without a hint of buffering.

When 5G was first announced back in 2019, most devices that featured this technology cost in excess of £700, but that’s all changing and Nokia’s new budget phone could really shake up the market.

Speaking about the phone, Florian Seiche, CEO at HMD Global: “Our mission from day one has been to make quality mobile technology accessible to everyone around the world. With Nokia G50, we are proud to put 5G in the pockets of even more people, supported by trusted partnerships for best-in-class experiences.

“And not only today, but for years to come too thanks to our regular software updates and quality materials. We want to empower people to feel good about keeping their smartphone for longer and combat the upgrade culture so we can all reduce our carbon footprint.”

If any of that takes your fancy, the Nokia G50 is available in the UK from today in Midnight Sun and Ocean Blue colour options for £199.
