Not a defect: Samsung clarifies on Galaxy S23 Ultra screen blemish issue

What the screen blemish on Galaxy S23 Ultra is, and what you can do

The screen blemish in question becomes visible only if you shine a very bright light source on the smartphone. In this case, a dampened circle, or a blemish, can be seen beneath the top glass layer of the Galaxy S23 Ultra display. This led to concerned users flagging the error, and soon, it turned out that these blemishes were not isolated incidents but is there in many devices.

Samsung has now attempted to alleviate concerns by saying that the blemish is a factor of the company’s screen lamination process — a manufacturing technique where all the layers of the smartphone’s screen are bound together, to ensure that there are no air gaps between them. As a result of the tight display ‘packing’ process, the blemish is a bystanding factor, and cannot be undone. Samsung also added that this does not mean that the phones are faulty, and the display should work fine and the blemish should not affect the usage of the Galaxy S23 Ultra in any way.

It now remains to be seen how users react to this. The Galaxy S23 Ultra costs a whopping Rs 1.25 lakh (starting price) in India, and having a bump on the display is the last thing that you would expect when you pay so much for a phone — manufacturing process or otherwise.
