Nothing dribbles out details for the Ear 1’s battery case

TL;DR

  • Nothing has shared details of the Ear 1’s battery case.
  • You’ll get 24 hours of battery life, including six hours from a 10-minute fast charge.
  • You can also expect wireless charging.

Nothing is continuing the deluge of OnePlus-style teases for its Ear 1 earbuds, this time for the battery case — and this time, there might be a few features that stand out.

The Ear 1 case’s 570mAh battery will offer a familiar 24 hours of playback with active noise cancellation (ANC) turned on, and 34 hours with the feature turned off. However, you also won’t have to scramble if you forgot to charge the case overnight. Nothing claims you’ll get six hours of ANC-enabled listening by plugging the case in (via USB-C) for 10 minutes. You might have enough music to get through the work day, in other words.

You’ll also get wireless charging from the Ear 1 battery case, although Nothing didn’t say how long it would take to top up while cable-free.

Not surprisingly, Nothing is determined to keep the tease going ahead of the July 27 launch event. The preview highlights the Ear 1 battery case’s transparent design, but the earbuds themselves are conspicuously missing apart from their outlines. The company has hinted at the design often enough that it’s easy to picture what it will look like, but you’ll apparently have to wait a while longer to confirm what you already suspect.

As always, the question is whether or not Nothing can live up to the expectations set by its media campaign and founder Carl Pei’s history at OnePlus. The Ear 1 is poised to offer value between its battery case, ANC and $99 price tag, but it’s not certain if the sound quality and overall feature set will hold up. After all, rivals like the second-generation Amazon Echo Buds include ANC and other perks for slightly more money. Nothing still has a significant fight ahead if it wants to sway buyers, no matter how much Ear 1 lives up to the hype.
