NPCI chief has a ‘UPI idea’ for Elon Musk on Twitter ‘blue tick’ fee – Times of India

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) chief executive officer Dilip Asbe has a ‘UPI idea’ for Twitter’s new owner Elon Musk. Asbe has pitched the autopay feature of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) as a simple way to handle monthly payments for Twitter’s paid subscription service, Twitter Blue. Replying to a tweet by Musk, Asbe said that UPI’s recurring payments offering already has seven million users.
“No worries, India has UPI AutoPay (7 Mn new approved collection mandates/month) to collect every anytime/month/quarter or yearly as you wish dear @Twitter,” wrote Asbe. His reply was to Musk’s tweet that said, “To all complainers, please continue complaining, but it will cost $8.”
Twitter Blue tick gets paid
Musk has announced that users can get their accounts verified with the new Twitter Blue plan at a price of $8. Twitter has been giving a ‘verified’ badge or ‘blue tick’ for free to public figures for several years now, but the qualifications needed to get one have not been very clear. “The blue verified badge on Twitter lets people know that an account of public interest is authentic. To receive the blue badge, your account must be authentic, notable, and active,” is how the company describes the verified badge system on its site.
The new Twitter boss has changed this. Musk has announced that users can get their accounts verified with the new Blue plan at a price of $8. “Twitter’s current lords and peasants system for who has or doesn’t have a blue checkmark is b******t,” he said in a tweet. “Power to the people! Blue for $8 per month”.
Will Twitter Blue tick going paid bring it to India
Musk is making the verified badge a part of Twitter’s paid subscription service Twitter Blue. The service is currently available only in four regions — US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. It has not yet launched in India. With Twitter making Blue tick a part of Twitter Blue, there are chances that this may bring it to India. As talking about global pricing, Musk added that the “price adjusted by country proportionate to purchasing power parity”. This shows that he has plans to expand the service to new geographies.
If this happens, then Asbe’s UPI suggestion may work quite well for the microblogging platform.
