OnePlus 10T could be name of rumored ‘Ultra’ model

TL;DR

  • A leaker contends that the rumored OnePlus 10 Ultra might land as a OnePlus 10T.
  • This is confusing because, so far, there hasn’t been a OnePlus 10.
  • It’s possible this leaker is incorrect, but the fact we believe it could happen shows just how confusing OnePlus’ lineup is today.

When OnePlus first started selling phones, it had a pretty reliable naming scheme. It had the mainline numbered series in the first half of the year and a “T” variant in the second half. This lasted for years, with the one-off OnePlus X being the only exception.

Fast-forward to now, and you have a wholly different beast. The OnePlus Nord line already has a dozen phones, despite launching less than two years ago. It’s not clear why the OnePlus Ace line even exists, and now, today, we have a rumor that OnePlus could launch a OnePlus 10T this year.

Just as a reminder, there is no OnePlus 10 (only the OnePlus 10 Pro). In other words, this leaker is suggesting the company could launch a “T” variant of a phone that doesn’t exist.

Final name of the next and only flagship phone coming this year: OnePlus 10T 5G

The leaker is Max Jambor, who has a pretty solid track record. Jambor contends that OnePlus could only have the OnePlus 10T as its second-half flagship phone, which would mean the rumored OnePlus 10 Ultra could never materialize.

If we assume Jambor is correct, what would the OnePlus 10T even be? Would it be a phone slightly weaker than the OnePlus 10 Pro, or would it be better? The rumor mill suggests the OnePlus 10 Ultra was going to land with the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1, which would make the 10T superior to the 10 Pro, at least when it comes to performance.

We’ll need to wait and see whether or not this rumor pans out. Regardless, OnePlus’ portfolio is getting even messier than we thought it could.
