OnePlus 10T vs Galaxy S22+ comparison: Two great Android options, but one’s cheaper

The OnePlus 10T has just gone official, and with that, it’s time to see how it fares against the fierce competition in the Android smartphone world. There’s no argument that Samsung dominates it, but could the new OnePlus 10T be good enough as to challenge Samsung’s Galaxy S22+?

Which of the two Android phones is a more viable purchase right now? Well, let’s compare them and find out!

While these two smartphones are quite similar from the front, both having minimal bezels around the display and a centered holepunch selfie camera piercing it, the OnePlus 10T and Galaxy S22+ are quite different from the back.

The OnePlus 10T has a large, very pronounced, square camera module, holding three cameras and a flash. It comes in two color options, which OnePlus calls Moonstone Black and Jade Green. Notably the Moonstone Black color has a texturized, matte feel, while the Jade Green is smooth and glossy, but they’re both glass-covered.

The Galaxy S22+ has a much less obtrusive, vertical camera module on the back, also holding three cameras (the flash is outside the module). Its color options are plenty: Phantom White, Phantom Black, Green, Graphite, Pink Gold, plus three exclusive ones, which are Cream, Sky Blue and Violet. The back of the Galaxy S22+ is made out of smooth glass regardless of which color you pick.

As for their displays, the OnePlus 10T sports a 6.7-inch AMOLED screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate. It’s covered with Gorilla Glass 5.

The Galaxy S22+ has a tad smaller 6.6-inch screen, also AMOLED and also at 120 Hz refresh rate. Its protection is Gorilla Glass Victus.

Both phones’ displays have a 1080p resolution, and nearly the same number of pixels per inch. We have the exact spec numbers for you near the end of this comparison.

But it’s safe to say that we have two very solid displays here, with neither one slacking behind its competitor. 120 Hz refresh rate means twice as smooth Android interface animations and gaming than the average phone; AMOLED means beautiful, vibrant colors with pitch blacks, for a fantastic movie-watching experience.

Performance and Software

Let’s start with the OnePlus 10T again – it’s powered by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor and up to a generous 16 GB of RAM. On the software side of things, we have Android 12, with OnePlus’ own OxygenOS 12.1 overlay running on top.

As for the Samsung Galaxy S22+, it runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in the US, but UK and European users are getting it with Samsung’s Exynos 2200 chip instead. Its RAM is 8 GB.

While both phones are good performers, at least if we compare the OnePlus 10T with the US version of the Galaxy S22+, those living in the UK and EU might be better off getting the OnePlus 10T if they value performance. It’s a safer bet than the Exynos chip they’re stuck with otherwise.

But let’s look at the raw specs from our performance benchmarks* and let them speak for themselves:

Camera

Inside the OnePlus 10T’s rather eye-catching, square camera module are three cameras and a flash. Its main camera is 50 megapixels and has optical image stabilization (OIS). The secondary cam is an 8 MP ultra-wide, while the third one is a bit of an underwhelming 2 MP macro, for very close-up shots. On the front, the OnePlus 10T has a 16 MP holepunch selfie camera.

As for the Galaxy S22+, its more understated, vertical camera module also holds three cameras, while the flash is outside of it. Its main camera is again a 50 MP one with OIS. The secondary is a 12 MP ultra-wide, while the third one is a 10 MP telephoto, for taking clearer pictures of far away subjects. So, basically the exact opposite of the OnePlus 10T’s third camera, and arguably a way more useful option. As for the S22+ selfie camera, it’s 10 megapixels, so 6 less than the 10T.

And now, to show you how the OnePlus 10T compares against the Galaxy S22+ when it comes to video recording:

As we can see from the video above, both phones offer great microphone quality, and while the OnePlus 10T seems to over-brighten the image, its image stabilization is definitely stronger than the one from the Galaxy S22+.

Audio Quality

Both the OnePlus 10T and the Galaxy S22+ have “dual stereo speakers”, but that’s in quotes because brands tend to be a bit misleading with the claim. In reality, both phones have a single down-firing speaker, and utilize the earpiece as a “second speaker”, which does give a better stereo effect. But since the earpiece is always weaker than the main speaker, we don’t get the kind of loud, even stereo sounds we hear from actual, true stereo speaker-phones like, say, the Asus ROG Phone 5 Ultimate.

In any case, it’s also worth noting that both the OnePlus 10T and Galaxy S22+ lack a headphone jack, so if you’re still rocking wired headphones, you’ll probably want to invest in some true wireless headphones instead.

Battery Life and Charging

The OnePlus 10T’s biggest selling point is arguably its support for 150 watt wired charging. There’s no wireless charging, unfortunately, but with the included charger out the box, OnePlus claims that a mere 19 minutes would be enough to charge your 10T from 0 to 100%, which is quite impressive. OnePlus also notes that it’s taken measures to make sure this super fast (“SUPERVOOC”) charging is safe, such as installing 13 temperature sensors inside the phone’s battery system.

As for the size of the OnePlus 10T’s battery, it’s a 4,800 mAh dual-cell one.

The Samsung Galaxy S22+ has a smaller 4,500 mAh battery that can be charged at up to 45 watts. Unlike OnePlus, Samsung does not give you a charger with your new phone, though, so you’ll have to separately buy a compatible fast charger yourself, if you wish to take advantage of the 45W charging the S22+ supports. On the plus side, the Galaxy S22+ does support 15W wireless charging too, while the OnePlus 10T, as we mentioned, does not offer wireless charging.

As we can see, in many ways the specs of these phones are quite similar, especially if we look at their screen details, base RAM, storage options, and battery size. The Galaxy S22+ is lighter, offers wireless charging and a telephoto camera, but its starting price is quite a bit higher too. On the other hand the OnePlus 10T has the super fast 150W wired charging speed, comes with a fast charger included in the box, and has the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor regardless of the region you’re buying it from.
