OnePlus 8 Google Pay: Some OnePlus 8 users are not able to use Google Pay and other banking apps – Times of India
“I just received the Oxygen OS 11.0.9.9.IN21BA on my Oneplus 8 and installed it through Local Update (using Oxygen Updater). After the update I get an error in Google Pay that my device cannot be used for contactless payments because it does not meet security standards (screenshot attached). Everything worked before the update and Google Pay has been available in my country for quite some time now. Never had this issue when using Oxygen Updater before,” said a user on the OnePlus Forum.
Meanwhile, another user took to Reddit and said, “Does Anyone else have this issue? Earlier today I installed an update to 11.0.9.9IN21BA Now Google Pay tells me that my phone doesn’t match the security requirements and GP is now disabled. I didn’t root or anything.”
Other OnePlus 8 users were quick to join the conversation and said that banking apps and even McDonalds’ app wasn’t working.
As per a report by Android Authority, a user found out that the reason for this issue is due to OnePlus 8 failing Google’s SafetyNet verification after the update. For those unaware, Google’s SafetyNet ensures that a particular phone is running genuine and certified software. If a device fails the SafetyNet verification then financial apps along with streaming and other premium apps stop working on the device.
Usually, rooting a particular phone causes this issue to appear but what’s interesting is that many users have pointed out that they did not root their OnePlus 8 and even then saw the error message.
OnePlus is yet to officially acknowledge this issue and we can expect the company to fix this soon.
