OnePlus 9R receives Android 12-based OxygenOS 12 open beta 1
OnePlus took to its forum to announce the rollout of OxygenOS 12 open beta update for the OnePlus 9R. The OxygenOS 12 update brings new features and design changes to the UI. As mentioned before, the OxygenOS 12 is based on Android 12, and the beta update comes with the February ’22 security patch.

- Optimized desktop icons with improved textures, by using a design inspired by brand-new materials and uniting lights and layers.
- Dark mode
- Dark mode now supports three adjustable levels, bringing a more personalized and comfortable user experience.
- Shelf
- New additional style options for Cards, making data contents more visual and easier to read.
- Newly added Earphone Control Card with Bluetooth earphone one-click adjustment.
- Newly added access to OnePlus Scout in Shelf, allowing you to search multiple contents on your phone, including Apps, Settings, Media Data, etc.
- Newly added OnePlus Watch Card in Shelf, to easily glance at your health stats.
- Work Life Balance
- Work Life Balance feature is now available to all users, allowing you to effortlessly switch between Work and Life mode via quick settings.
- WLB 2.0 now supports automatic Work/Life mode switching, based on specific locations, Wi-Fi network, and time, also bringing customized App notification profiles according to the personalization.
- Gallery
- Gallery now allows you to switch between different layouts with a two-finger pinch gesture, intelligently recognizing the best-quality pictures, and cropping the thumbnail based on the content, making the gallery layout more pleasing.
- Canvas AOD
- Canvas AOD brings you new diverse styles of lines and colors, for a more personalized lock screen experience with inspiring visuals.
- Newly added multiple brushes and strokes and support for color adjustment.
- Optimized software algorithm and improved face recognition to better identify the features and skin color of different figures.
How to install OxygenOS 12 open beta build on OnePlus 9R
If you own a OnePlus 9R, you can go ahead and give OxygenOS 12 a try, but do note that it’s a beta build, and it may consist of some bugs that could hinder your usage. Interested users can head to this link to download the ROM file, then follow the steps mentioned below.
Before you go ahead with the installation, don’t forget to take a complete backup of your smartphone. Also, make sure that your device has at least 30 percent charge and a minimum of 3GB of available storage.
- First, download the OxygenOS beta ROM file here.
- Now, transfer the ROM upgrade package to the phone’s internal storage.
- Open Settings -> System -> System Updates -> Local upgrade -> Click on the OTA zip file -> Upgrade.
- Now, restart the phone after the upgrade as soon as the update gets completed.
- Now, wait for the installation to finish, and voila, your OnePlus 9R is now upgraded to OxygenOS 12.
