OnePlus Nord 2 to become the first smartphone to feature OxygenOS based on shared codebase with Oppo | Digit

OnePlus is ready to launch its next smartphone, the Nord 2 in India later this month. The phone is expected to be the next big release from the company, and ahead of its launch, details about the device have already started to find their way online.

While there have been a lot of leaks around the phone, the company has now given an exclusive interview to XDADevelopers where it has confirmed that the Nord 2 will indeed be the first phone from the company to feature the new OxygenOS 11.3 — a UI that uses the integrated OxygenOS and ColorOS codebase. The news comes after OnePlus had previously announced the merger of OxygenOS and Oppo’s ColorOS.

The information was revealed by OnePlus’ Head of Product, Oliver Zhang who also claimed there won’t be too many changes to OS, and that it would be very close to the vanilla OxygenOS. OnePlus had previously explained how using the same codebase for the OxygenOS and ColorOS will ensure not only more scope for innovation but also make it easier for OnePlus and Oppo to jointly develop operating systems in the future.

Talking about the phone, the OnePlus Nord 2 is expected to feature a 6.43-inch Full HD+ display that uses an AMOLED panel with support for 90Hz refresh rate along with an in-display fingerprint sensor. Previously, rumours have suggested the Nord 2 could be the first OnePlus phone to be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 processor and will likely be offered with upto 12GB RAM and 256GB storage options to choose from.

Apart from this, the Nord 2 is expected to come with a triple camera set-up on the back. There could be a 50MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 2MP macro camera to complete the set-up. The phone is also expected to bring with it a front-facing 32MP camera. For battery, the OnePlus Nord 2 could be equipped with a 4,500mAh pack with possibly support for fast charging.
