oneplus: OnePlus may reportedly ‘borrow’ name from an Oppo smartphone – Times of India

OnePlus has recently launched its 2022 flagship — OnePlus 10 Pro 5G — in India. In addition to that the company is also rumoured to be working on OnePlus 10R. Now, it seems that the company is planning to borrow a name from Oppo.
A well known tipster Digital Chat Station recently dropped a post on Chinese microblogging website Weibo revealing the specifications of an upcoming OnePlus smartphone.
According to the tweet, the smartphone will be powered by MediaTek Dimensity 8100 chipset and it will support 150W fast charging. Apart from that, the phone will also feature a 50MP Sony IMX766 primary sensor. But, most importantly, the tipster has claimed that the specs are of the smartphone named OnePlus Ace.
On the contrary side, the leaked specs of the alleged OnePlus Ace smartphone matches to the leaked specifications of OnePlus 10R. That leads to a confusion whether these are two different smartphones or the same smartphones with different names for different locations.
Reports also suggest that OnePlus might keep the Ace moniker for China and launch the OnePlus 10R globally.
Meanwhile, the smartphone has also surfaced on Weibo via an official source. Recently, OnePlus executive Liu Fengshuo used the OnePlus Ace smartphone for a post. However, the post was soon deleted.
In addition to that, the leaked images of the alleged OnePlus Ace has already surfaced revealing the camera design of the phone which coincidentally looks identical to the Realme GT Neo 3. Apparently, the GT Neo 3 also matches the leaked specs sheet of the OnePlus smartphone.
That’s not it, the Ace moniker was part of Oppo’s smartphone lineup. The company launched the Oppo Reno Ace in 2019 and followed it with Oppo Reno Ace 2 in 2020. However, the company then dropped the moniker and never launched the successor of Ace 2.
The whole OnePlus-Oppo merger is definitely getting more confusing over time. It is possible that OnePlus could altogether launch another smartphone or the Ace monkeir might only arrive in China and as the OnePlus 10R for the rest of the world. It seems we will only be able to figure this out once the phone arrives.
