Oppo Watch 3 series marries Qualcomm’s latest tech with big batteries

TL;DR

  • Oppo has launched two new smartwatches with the Qualcomm W5 Gen 1 chip.
  • The Oppo Watch 3 and Watch 3 Pro promise up to 15 days of battery life, fast charging, and over 100 sports tracking modes.

Oppo has launched yet another Apple Watch clone, but it’s a powerful one. The Oppo Watch 3 series onboards the new Qualcomm W5 Gen 1 chip. It’s the first set of smartwatches to be powered by the new wearables platform, which promises faster performance and extended battery life.

Speaking of, the Oppo Watch 3 Pro features a 550mAh battery that promises over five days of usage. The battery-saver mode further extends the life of the smartwatch to an impressive 15 days. The standard Oppo Watch reduces the battery capacity to 400mAh with four days of on-time in regular usage and 10 days in light mode.

You also get fast charging on the wearable. It takes 65 minutes to top up the battery of the Oppo Watch 3 Pro and 60 minutes for the standard Oppo Watch 3, but the company says 10 minutes of charging can give you a full day’s worth of usage on both wearables.

Accompanying the Qualcomm W5 Gen 1 on the smartwatches is another co-processor called the Apollo 4 Plus. It further optimizes power consumption and helps speed-up performance.

The Oppo Watch 3 doesn’t need to be connected to a phone to make calls.

Up front, you get a 1.9-inch curved LTPO Always-on display on the Oppo Watch 3 Pro and a 1.75-inch non-LTPO screen on the regular model. Oppo has included 150 new watch faces on the device, both animated and still ones.

Elsewhere, you get standalone eSIM connectivity. That means the Oppo Watch 3 doesn’t need to be connected to a phone to make calls.

Health tracking features include all the basics like heart-rate monitoring, continuous blood oxygen tracking, a mode that senses accidental falls, sleep tracking and assessment, and over 100 sports modes.

The Oppo Watch 3 Pro is priced at 2,099 Chinese yuan ($311) and comes in Platinum Black and Desert Brown variants. The vanilla Oppo Watch 3 costs 1,599 yuan ($237) for the Black version and 1,699 yuan ($252) for the leather strap variant. Both models get 5ATM water resistance. There’s no word on the international availability of the duo.
