Over 20 lakh people are now making money from YouTube – Times of India

YouTube is now helping over 20 lakh people globally to earn money by making videos. YouTube announced that its Partner Program crossed two million creators in its monetisation program. YouTube’s Partner Program was launched 14 years ago in May 2007.
“Creators who are part of YPP can make money and earn a living from their content on YouTube with ten different monetization features from advertiser revenue to selling merchandise,” said YouTube in its blog post.
Over the last three years, YouTube claims to have paid more than $30 billion to creators, artists, and media companies. “The number of new channels joining YPP in 2020 more than doubled when compared to the year before. And the number of YouTube channels making 6 figures in revenue or more is up more than 35% year over year in the U.S,” it added.
It also said that the creator economy via YouTube has helped create jobs as well. “In 2019 alone, YouTube’s creative ecosystem supported the equivalent of 345,000 full-time jobs, just in the U.S,” it claimed.
How to join YouTube Partner Program and earn money
While prominent YouTube content creators have quit their full-time jobs for the success of their respective channels, it is definitively not advisable for someone who is thinking of starting their YouTube channel now. The reality is making money on YouTube requires dedicated long-term effort and of course, a creative mind. You will have to create good videos consistently and just forget about the money.
You are highly mistaken if you consider YouTube to be a quick source of additional income. Also, it is not about creating that one viral video. YouTube is all about uploading videos regularly that are high on quality and content. Keeping these in mind, here’s how to join YouTube Partner Program to earn money.

  • Follow all the YouTube channel monetization policies. The YouTube channel monetization policies are a collection of policies that allow you to monetize on YouTube.
  • You should not have any active Community Guidelines strikes on your channel.
  • You need to have more than 4,000 valid public watch hours in the last 12 months.
  • You need at least 1,000 subscribers.
  • You will need a linked AdSense account.

After following these, you can apply to the Partner Program to get enrolled. Note that you are required to make videos at regular intervals to make money as YouTube may disable monetisation on channels that haven’t uploaded a video or posted to the Community tab for 6 months or more.
How to set up your YouTube Channel?
Start with a Google account and sign in to YouTube. Decide on the genre and name beforehand. Also, create unique thumbnail and cover images before you start. To maintain a workflow, it is advisable to create sufficient content from the beginning before you start your channel. As a rule of thumb, it is advisable to have two or three weeks of planned and ready-to-upload videos. This will help you to be regular and consistent. The basics of production suggest that you make videos mute-friendly with proper subtitles and incorporate a good voice-over. While smartphone cameras are good for starters, remember it is always the shots and angle that makes a good video great. You will have to think like a director.
After getting these basics right, you should aim to get enrolled to the YouTube Partner Program with 1000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours. Once this is achieved, you will have to connect your YouTube channel to a Google Adsense account to get paid for monetised videos. After this you will have to continue making engaging videos to gain traction. Lastly, you will have to wait and expect your ad-engagement to increase to earn money.
