OxygenOS will remain the operating system for global OnePlus devices: Pete Lau – Times of India
OxygenOS is among one of the most important selling points for OnePlus smartphones. Now, with OnePlus and Oppo research and development (R&D) hardware teams merger, announced earlier this year, it was unclear that what will happen to the software part on the smartphone for both the companies. Recently, OnePlus also announced that they will further integrate with Oppo as a part of ‘A New Journey for OnePlus’ on its official forum, which further led to a confusion among the OnePlus fans about the software.
A OnePlus user asked about the software part on OnePlus’ official forum. Answering questions, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau confirmed that OnePlus devices will still run OxygenOS despite the merger.
Lau said, “OxygenOS will remain the operating system for global OnePlus devices outside of the China market.”
If you don’t know, OnePlus earlier used to offer HydrogenOS in their smartphones sold in China. The OS is basically an OxygenOS without Google services. Recently, OnePlus started offering ColorOS with their smartphones in China and that will remain the same.
In the forum, Lau also mentioned that, “we have integrated a number of our teams together with Oppo to better streamline our operations and capitalize on additional shared resources. After seeing positive impact from those changes, we’ve decided to further integrate our organization with Oppo,”
The forum also mentions that OnePlus will still operate as an independent company and will launch OnePlus products, hold events as before.
