Pixel 7 series reportedly may use the same display as its predecessor

TL;DR

  • The Pixel 7 series will likely feature the exact same displays as the 6 series.
  • The only significant change will be a slightly smaller Pixel 7 display compared to the 6.

Users hoping for a new-fangled display for the Pixel 7 series may be in for a disappointment, with new rumors indicating the display will be largely unchanged. The Pixel 6 series featured a significant upgrade to the display tech Google used compared to previous versions of the Pixel line. While users shouldn’t expect a similar leap forward with the 7, that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

First spotted by 9to5Google, Google has released some new specs that seem to indicate the Pixel 7 series will feature the same basic display tech as the Pixel 6 series. This means that the baseline Pixel 7 will have up to 90Hz refresh rate, just like the 6, while the Pro model will bump that up to 120Hz, just like the 6 Pro.

Similarly, it appears that both models are using the same Samsung display panels as their predecessors. While the 7 Pro will be identical in size compared to its predecessor, the baseline 7’s display will be slightly smaller, coming in at 1mm narrower and 2mm shorter than the baseline 6.

Interestingly, the Pixel 7 Pro may gain the ability to run natively in 1080p mode, likely as a way to save battery for users that need to eke out every last bit of juice.

Obviously, this is all still rumor stages but now that the Pixel 7 is out of the bag thanks to Google, it’s only a matter of time until we learn even more about Google’s upcoming flagship.
