pixel: Google Pixel 6 update fixes fingerprint scanner issue

Since Google launched its latest flagship smartphones Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro last month, many users have complained about the slow fingerprint scanner on the devices. The issue was also acknowledged by the company saying that the fingerprint sensor utilises enhanced security algorithms and in some instances, these added protections can take longer to verify. Now, the company has rolled out a November security patch for the smartphones that is reportedly focused on fixing the slow fingerprint scanner.
As per Verizon, the mid-cycle update “improves the performance of your device’s fingerprint sensor.” The update is relatively small (14.56MB) for Google Pixel 6 smartphones and it doesn’t add any other feature to the devices. The company has not yet released a changelog for the patch. Users can check if they have received the update by going into Settings > System > Advanced > System update. Users can also sideload the update manually using the OTA file.
Recently, the company also added Adaptive Sound feature to both smartphones. The feature uses the microphone on the device to study audio levels and acoustics in the surroundings. It then adjusts the equalizer accordingly to provide better audio output. The feature is disabled by default and it can be enabled by going into the Adaptive Sound section under Settings.
The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are powered by Google Tensor, Google’s first-ever processor. Google claims that Tensor has been designed specifically around Google’s AI. Google Tensor SoC brings new capabilities to the two smartphones such as Magic Eraser and Quick Phrases.
The Pixel 6 comes with 8GB of RAM, while Pixel 6 Pro has 12GB. The storage options in Pixel 6 are 128 and 256GB, Pixel 6 Pro also offers a 512GB model. The two phones come with Android 12 out of the box. As of now, the devices are only available in eight countries – Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Taiwan, United Kingdom and United States.
