Plusnet users could soon get an upgrade BT broadband fans have enjoyed for a while

Plusnet is taking a leaf out of parent company BT’s books. It has been revealed this week that the low-price broadband provider is introducing a new broadband hub, which BT customers may be very familiar with. The Plusnet Hub Two has been unveiled this week, with the router first becoming available to business accounts – but it will be “coming soon” to residential customers as well.

If you’re getting a bit of deja-vu when looking at the new Plusnet router then there’s good reason for that. That’s because the Plusnet Hub Two is a rebrand of BT’s SmartHub 2 which first shipped back in 2018. This router was originally launched by BT to support G.fast and Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) services, ISPreview reported.

However, unlike BT Plusnet doesn’t have any ultrafast broadband packages which offer download speeds in excess of 100Mbps. Plusnet fibre broadband offers average download speeds of 66Mbps or 36Mpbs.

The Hub Two router is currently available to Plusnet small business accounts, but will be heading to residential consumers soon.

In a community post online Plusnet team member Anoush said: “We’re shipping the Hub Two for business accounts now and ‘coming soon’ for residential customers, I can’t say when though”.

While a spokesperson for the firm also added: “The Plusnet Hub Two is currently available alongside our Plusnet Business broadband packages and will be available for Residential customers later in the year.

“In terms on non-cosmetic changes, we are using Plusnet-specific firmware that is tailored to Plusnet services and therefore differs slightly from the BT Smart Hub 2.”

At the time of writing, Plusnet is running a range of money saving deals for a limited time only.

Plusnet is at the moment offering a free activation fee on its unlimited broadband, unlimited fibre and unlimited fibre extra packages.

Unlimited fibre extra, which offers 66Mbps download speeds, is available for £24 a month on an 18 month contract.

While unlimited fibre, which offers 36 Mbps download speeds, is available for £22 a month for 18 months.

Unlimited broadband, which boasts average download speeds of 10Mbps, is available for £18.99 a month for 18 months.
