Poll: Would you buy an Afeela, Sony and Honda’s EV?

At CES 2023, Sony surprised us all with a very unexpected reveal: an Afeela prototype. In partnership with fellow Japanese company Honda, Afeela will be an electric vehicle (EV) to debut at some point in 2026.

You can see the prototype above (via Reuters). The car is very Tesla-like, complete with a sleek black roof.

Sony affirmed that its intention with Afeela is to harness its vast entertainment prowess and bring it to the EV space. This would include delivering Sony games, films, and music in the cockpit of the EV, although specifics on this weren’t available. Sony’s other major business — namely sensors — would also be used in and on the car.

The question, though, is whether or not you would actually want to buy a car made by Sony.

On the one hand, many of Sony’s products tend to be overpriced for what you get, and repairability has never been one of its strong points. These two things might sway consumers away from buying a vehicle Sony’s had a hand in creating.

On the other hand, Sony is well-respected, and Honda is one of the world’s largest manufacturers. These two neighbors working together could create something truly unique and special.
