Poll: Would you ever use a smartphone without a case?

In this day and age, it’s hard to find people who don’t cover up their phones with a protective case. In fact, even as far back as 2017, most people voted in a Statista survey to say they use a case on their phones. Fast forward to 2021 and smartphones have bodies that don’t really inspire confidence in their durability. The use of glass backs has become more prevalent to enable features like wireless charging, making phones slippery and more prone to breakage. Even if you have a plastic or a metal phone, dropping it on its corner almost always results in the display cracking up.

Another reason why you might not want your phone to go commando is that you paid a pretty penny for it and want to keep it working and looking good, even if it means hiding the very design or colorway that attracted you to the phone in the first place.

But there’s also another school of thought. Why should the responsibility of making phones last without damage be on consumers rather than OEMs who make the devices? Many people, including Android Authority‘s C. Scott Brown, would prefer using a phone without a case. Eric Zeman from our team also enjoyed using his Pixel 5 sans a case thanks to the phone’s
resin-coated aluminum shell.

With strong arguments both for and against the use of cases on phones, we thought of asking you, our readers, what you would do if you had a choice. Would you ever use your smartphone without a case? Take our poll above and tell us what you think. Got more to say? Leave us a comment below and we’ll be sure to add your opinions to the final results of this poll.
