The short teaser video, however, does not reveal much about the upcoming wearable chipset, including the name or model details of the SoC. “The clock is ticking on something big,” says the tweet hinting at the upcoming launch. The tweet has two eyes and a watch emoji at the end. This suggests that the upcoming chipset will power smartwatches. The video teaser also has the words: “Wear what matters.”
Going by Qualcomm’s nomenclature, it is most likely to be named Snapdragon 5100. Leaks have also suggested that the company will be launching the Snapdragon Wear 5100 and Wear 5100+ SoCs. Both chipsets are expected to feature four ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.7GHz and Adreno 702 GPU clocked at 700MHz. Also, these chips will reportedly support up to 4GB LPDDR4X RAM and eMMC 5.1 flash memory.
Meanwhile, the current wearables chipset from Qualcomm — Snapdragon 4100+ – is based on a 12nm process. However, previous leaks and reports have claimed that the company will be using Samsung’s 4nm process for the upcoming wearable SoCs.
