Qualcomm unveils Snapdragon 782G chipset: How does it compare against Snapdragon 778G+
Qualcomm has unveiled a new chipset for mid-range smartphones, the Snapdragon 782G, also a successor to last year’s Snapdragon 778G+ chipset. The new chipset – being an iterative update – brings slight improvements to CPU and GPU performance.
A 5% increase in CPU performance and 10% better GPU performance
The Snapdragon 782G has the same configuration as its predecessor, featuring a Kryo 670 Prime core, which runs at a tad higher clock speed of 2.7GHz, 3x Kryo 670 Gold having a frequency of up to 2.2GHz, and 4x Kryo 670 Silver at up to 1.9GHz. Qualcomm says that the Snapdragon 782G would offer a 5% increase in performance. Even the GPU inside is the same as the last chipset, the Adreno 642L, though it comes with a 10% boost in performance.
Similar to the Snapdragon 778G+, the new one also has the support for Quick Charge 4+, promising up to 50% charge in 15 minutes. The modem inside is the same Snapdragon X53 as before, bringing support for sub-6GHz and mmWave connectivity. Meanwhile, the FastConnect 6700 adds WiFi 6 support, offering speeds up to 2.9Gbps, and also adding support for Bluetooth 5.2.
Snapdragon 782G-powered smartphones could have up to 200MP cameras
The ISP inside the Snapdragon 782G is also the same as its predecessor, the Qualcomm Spectra 570L Image Sensor Processor. So, the imaging capabilities of the new chipset remain the same, including 10-bit HDR HEIF photo capture, 4K HDR video capture, 720p, Slow-mo video capture at 240 FPS and HDR10+, HDR10, HLG support
Qualcomm has not announced in which smartphone we would first see this chipset. Rumours are rife that the chipset will debut with the upcoming Honor 80.
