Realme, OnePlus, Oppo and Vivo may have electric vehicles – Times of India

Realme, OnePlus, Oppo and Vivo may have electric cars, scooters and more in India soon. As per images shared by tipster Debayan Roy, the companies have applied to register a trademark for their upcoming Electric Vehicles in the country. The images further reveal that out of the four, only Realme managed to get its trademark registered. While Oppo and Vivo applied for the Trademark Class 12 in 2018, OnePlus and Realme applied for it earlier this year only.
Realme has successfully managed to grab a trademark for ‘realme TechLife and TL Device’. It is valid up to April 2031. Under the trademark, the company can sell electric vehicles, anti-theft devices for automobiles, self-balancing scooters, self-balancing electric scooters, self-balancing boards, electric bicycles, electric wheelchairs, pushchairs, child safety seat for vehicles and vehicles for locomotion by land, air, water or rail.
These companies already enjoy a strong presence in the Indian smartphone market. During the last festive season, Realme sold around 6 million smartphones in the country and the company expects a 25%-30% boost in sales this year.
In the past few years, China has seen exponential growth in the electric vehicles market. With various government schemes to boost public adaptability of these vehicles, India is undoubtedly the next big potential market for anyone in the battery business. Another major tech player Xiaomi has already started to roll out its electric scooter in China. However, it is not yet clear whether it will make its way in India.
Currently, India allows 100% foreign direct investment (FDI) in this sector under the automatic route. The government also recently revised the FAME II subsidy which is aimed at promoting faster adoption and manufacturing of electric vehicles. The scheme offers Rs 15,000 per kWh to the manufacturer which helps to reduce the selling price of these vehicles.
