Reddit DOWN: Thousands left unable to access site as huge outage hits the web
If you’re hoping to access Reddit this morning you are out of luck. The popular content-sharing platform appears to be down with users seeing a message that reads “connection failure” and “Error 503 Service Unavailable” when attempting to access the site. Thousands of users seem to be hit by the gremlins with over 15,000 reports currently showing on Down Detector.
This independent outage monitor has registered a huge spike in Reddit down reports in the past hour and it seems that users of this popular site aren’t the only ones facing problems.
At first, it was thought that Amazon’s Web Services, which power huge swathes of the internet, was struggling with numerous websites now offline.
Along with Reddit, it seems Amazon, eBay, Twitter, Spotify and more are all facing difficulties so it could be a frustrating day for anyone heading online.
However, it now appears that Content Distribution Network, or CDN, is the culprit. On its status page, which is designed to confirm to customers when the CDN is encountering issues, it has confirmed there is an ongoing problem. “We are continuing to investigate this issue,” Fastly has confirmed, but offered no more details about when users can expect their favourite websites to return to normal.
Whatever the cause, users aren’t happy.
Speaking on Down Detector’s forum page one user said: What’s happening… Twitch down. Reddit down. Amazon down. Audible down. Did the the AWS servers just get melted?! #twitchdown #redditdown #amazondown #audibledown”
Whilst another added: “Amazon Reddit and twitch are all down right now @Amazon fix ur servers.”
There’s no word on when the problems will be fixed although some signs of life are now coming back to Reddit with a small number of posts appearing on the webite.
