TL;DR
- The Redmi K50 Gaming Edition is tipped to be on the way.
- It’s believed that the device will have similar shoulder buttons as the Poco F3 GT.
The Redmi K40 Gaming Edition launched in China but came to the likes of India as the Poco F3 GT, and we really liked the device in our review earlier this year. Now, it turns out that Xiaomi is reportedly working on a direct successor to this device.
Frequent tipster Digital Chat Station claimed on Weibo that the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition is on the way. The leaker didn’t give a launch window but claimed that it would have a center-mounted punch-hole cutout and “lift-type” shoulder buttons. You can view the machine-translated post in the screenshot below.
We’re guessing that the “lift-type” shoulder buttons will be similar to the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition/Poco F3 GT. This phone offered shoulder buttons that could be retracted into the side of the device when not in use, blending with the rest of the body.
The leaker didn’t give us any more details, although Xiaomiui claims that the device will be available in standard and Pro flavors. The outlet asserts that the standard variant will offer the unreleased Dimensity 7000 SoC but that the Pro model will gain the Dimensity 9000 processor.
Either way, our own Dhruv Bhutani said the Poco F3 GT “redefines the definition of a value-focused gaming smartphone,” only taking major issue with the mediocre cameras. So you might want to keep an eye on the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition if you want a gaming smartphone that won’t break the bank.
