The Redmi K50i was launched in India on July 20th, bringing back the Redmi K series to India after a hiatus of around three years. The smartphone enters a hotly contested price segment of around Rs 30,000 in India, which has seen a number of launches from a variety of brands. From the much hyped Nothing Phone (1) and the Google Pixel 6a north of Rs 30,000, to the POCO F4 5G, OnePlus Nord 2T and the iQOO Neo 6 under Rs 30,000, the category has a rich variety of options for buyers to choose from. Today, we take a look at how the Redmi K50i fares in comparison to the iQOO Neo 6, in terms of their specifications and overall design.
Redmi K50i vs iQOO Neo 6: price in India
The Redmi K50i went on sale in India on July 23rd, and can be purchased on Amazon India. The smartphone costs Rs 25,999 for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant, and Rs 28,999 for the 8GB RAM + 256GB storage variant. Buyers can also avail a discount of Rs 3,000 using ICICI Bank credit cards.
The iQOO Neo 6 is a pricier option in this regard, costing Rs 29,999 for its 8GB + 128GB variant, and Rs 33,999 for its 12GB + 256GB variant. It also gets an instant discount of Rs 3,000 on ICICI Bank credit card transactions on the platform.
Redmi K50i vs iQOO Neo 6: design, specs and features
Design
The Redmi K50i (review) is a rebranded version of the Redmi Note 11T Pro 5G smartphone that was launched in China in May. The smartphone is on the bulkier end of the weighing scale, measuring 8.9mm in thickness and weighing 200 grams. However, the device offers a minimal design statement without too many flourishes – featuring minimal branding to the bottom left, and a neatly designed camera module with two large lenses and overall uniformity to the top left. The device gets curved edges on the rear, but flat edges to the sides that are in line with the new generation Xiaomi design language.
The iQOO Neo 6 (review), on the other hand, measures 8.5mm in thickness and weighs 190 grams, and is therefore slimmer and lighter. The rear gets more prominent branding, while the large, square camera module to the rear does not look as seamless as the Redmi K50i. Both phones are roughly of the same height as well.
Processor, storage and RAM
The Redmi K50i is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8100 SoC, along with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM, and 128GB or 256GB of internal storage.
The iQOO Neo 6, meanwhile, is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC, which is a more powerful chipset as per benchmarks. The device gets 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage.
Display
The Redmi K50i features a 6.6-inch LCD display, with full HD+ resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. The latter is among the best in the industry, and offers a high refresh rate in line with dedicated gaming smartphones. It also has Dolby Vision certification, and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 screen protection.
The iQOO Neo 6 meanwhile features a 6.62-inch E4 AMOLED display, with full HD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate – which is in line with most offerings in the premium smartphone market right now. It gets HDR10+ certification, and on paper, has higher brightness rating as well.
Cameras
The Redmi K50i features a 64MP primary rear camera with Samsung GW1 image sensor, along with an 8MP ultrawide second camera, and a 2MP macro camera as well. The camera is capable of offering 4K videos at 30fps and full HD videos at 60fps. To the front is a 16MP selfie camera.
The iQOO Neo 6 features a very similar imaging setup, with the same primary rear camera, as well as additional camera units. It also gets 4K 30fps and 1080p 60fps videography. The front camera also gets a 16MP sensor.
Battery
The Redmi K50i gets a 5080mAh battery with 67W fast charging, which is certified to offer 50 percent power in 15 minutes of charging time.
The iQOO Neo 6 gets a 4700mAh battery with faster 80W fast charging standard, which claims to offer 50 percent power in 12 minutes of charging.
Connectivity
The Redmi K50i gets Wi-Fi 6 for gigabit class dual-band connectivity, as well as Bluetooth 5.3 for the latest generation of connectivity. The device also gets a 3.5mm physical audio port for wired connectivity, USB-C for charging, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
The iQOO Neo 6 also gets Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2, but misses a physical audio port. It gets USB-C, and an optical, under-display fingerprint sensor.
Redmi K50i vs iQOO Neo 6: verdict
The Redmi K50i is a bulkier smartphone, and is marginally lower on the performance scale. However, it does have a 144Hz display that is great for gaming, while its cameras, connectivity standards, and battery life and charging are at par with the best in the segment.
The iQOO Neo 6, though more powerful, looks a touch louder than Redmi’s minimal design, and on paper, offers a better proposition as it matches the best specifications in this class.
