Reliance Jio has announced new details about JioPhone Next. The ‘world’s most-affordable smartphone’ is likely to launch in the ongoing festive season. Reliance JioPhone Next was earlier slated to launch on September 11 on auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, however, the launch was delayed due to the worldwide chip shortage. JioPhone Next to run on Pragati OS, an optimised version of Google’s Android OS
Reliance has revealed the name of the operating system that will power the JioPhone Next — Pragati OS. The Pragati OS will be based on Android. “Pragati OS is a world class operating system that has been built specifically for India and is at the heart of JioPhone Next,” said the company in a statement. This is the first mobile device from Jio to offer Android OS, JioPhone runs on KaiOS.

Reliance today also revealed that JioPhone Next will run on Qualcomm processor. “The Qualcomm processor on the JioPhone Next focuses on delivering optimized connectivity and location technologies along with optimizations in device performance, audio and battery,” said the company.

JioPhone Next will likely have a single camera on the back and front. According to Jio, the camera will support various photography modes such as Portrait mode and Night mode. The camera app will come preloaded with custom Indian augmented reality filters.
