Reliance Jio back after outage: Duration, what the company said and more

Reliance Jio services faced an outage early this morning. According to Down Detector, the website that offers real-time problem and outage monitoring about the status of various websites and services, users started reporting issues with their Reliance Jio connection around 6 am. The complaints peaked between 8 am to 9 am, with a maximum of 595 users complaining of disruption in services. It is common and possible for some users to be facing issues throughout the day, Downdetector, as it says, only reports an incident when the number of problems reported are significantly higher than the typical volume for that time of day.
What Reliance Jio users complained of
Most users reported issues with the signal. Some Jio users that Times of India Tech spoke to said that they were not able to make calls. Even WhatsApp calls were not going through. Users were also not able to use apps. These included social media apps Instagram, Facebook as well as those like Uber and Ola. Some Jio users also said that their phone went engaged when others tried to reach them. However, some subscribers also claimed that while internet/mobile data worked fine for them, normal calls didn’t go through. Also, there were users who did not face any issue with their Jio connection, both call and internet. So, it is not clear how widespread the outage has been.

Reliance Jio on outage
Reliance Jio did not make any comment on the outage, either confirming or denying the same. There is no tweet or information on any of the social media pages of the company. We reached out to Jio for comment, but did not get a response.

Football World Cup exclusively on JioCinema
In India, the FIFA World Cup can only be viewed on Sports 18 channels and Jio Cinema. Some users have been complaining of buffering during the live telecast of FIFA matches. Not sure if the recent outage faced by some Jio users is linked to this.
Some users did report issues during the inaugural matches and Jio did confirm the same. JioCinema replied to complaining tweets with a meme, assuring subscribers that they are working to resolve the issue. Later the company issued an apology. “Dear @JioCinema fans, We are continuously working to give you a great experience. Please upgrade your app to the latest version to enjoy #FIFAWorldCupQatar2022. Apologies for any inconvenience,” it said.
