What’s new in macOS Monterey

For starters, FaceTime includes new audio and video features that make calls feel more natural. Spatial audio also comes to FaceTime making voices sound like they are coming from where the person is positioned on the screen. Just as it is with iOS 15, Mac users also get two new microphone modes that give users more control over how their voice sounds. There’s Voice Isolation that eliminates background noise to give more clarity, and there’s Wide Spectrum that allows all the noise to come in so participants can hear everything. Apart from this, FaceTime calls also get Portrait mode, a new feature in FaceTime and available in apps including Webex and Zoom.
Another feature from iPhone that makes its way to Mac is Live Text that detects text in photos, including phone numbers, websites, addresses, and more, so users can copy and paste, make a phone call, open a website, and look up more information. There’s also the Visual Look Up feature that will help users discover and learn about animals, art, landmarks, plants, and more in photos.
Apple also brings the Focus mode to MacBook under which notifications from apps and people based on what the user wants to focus on at that moment. It works across Apple devices, so if you have Focus Mode turned on in your iPhone, the MacBook too will get into the same mode.
Safari offers users more control over how users browse, including a new Tab Groups feature that allows users to easily save and organise taba. Tab Groups sync across Mac, iPhone, and iPad, so users can continue their project from anywhere, and share tabs with friends and family. Safari also gets a new — but optional — tab bar design that gives users more space to browse.
