Samsung Galaxy Note line discontinued permanently, no new model in the pipeline: report | 91mobiles.com

It’s been almost a year since Samsung launched a new smartphone under its Galaxy Note lineup. The last Note model we saw was the Galaxy Note 20, and it seems like it’ll be the last one. If you don’t remember, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Note 20 series in August last year, and Samsung has ended up not manufacturing a successor in 2021 due to the ongoing worldwide chipset shortage. Now, as it turns out, there may be no new Galaxy Note smartphone at all going forward as Samsung reportedly has no plans to make a new one. So, is Samsung finally bidding farewell to the Galaxy Note lineup?

A new report from reliable South Korean publication ET News has pretty much put an end to the speculations. The report suggests that Samsung has no plans to make a new Galaxy Note, and there’s no Galaxy Note smartphone launch scheduled for the next year. This means that the only flagship Galaxy smartphones next year would be the Galaxy S22 series and successors to Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3.

The report further claims that Samsung is also putting an end to the Galaxy Note 20 series production by the end of 2021. This might come as a shock since it’s over a year old and things move quickly in the smartphone industry, but the Galaxy Note 20 devices are still going strong in the market. In 2021, Samsung sold around 3.2 million units of the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra duo. However, this might not be enough for Samsung to keep the Note lineup around considering it was the big screen or phablet line that has pretty much lost its market as all smartphones nowadays feature large screens.

So what’s in store for S Pen aficionados if the Galaxy Note lineup is indeed discontinued? No new Galaxy Note device would mean that the biggest Galaxy S lineup device would serve as its successor, i.e. the upcoming Galaxy S22 Ultra. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is said to have an S Pen slot just like the Galaxy Note devices. We also have S Pen support on the new Galaxy Z Fold 3, but you can’t stuff the S Pen inside the Fold, as is the case with the Galaxy S21 Ultra too. So, maybe it’s time for us to get over our Galaxy Note infatuation and accept foldables as the new big thing.
