TL;DR
- A new report suggests Samsung could launch the Galaxy S23 FE in August or September.
- It is expected to replace the Galaxy A74.
- The company may end the Galaxy A7 line if the S23 FE takes off.
Samsung could bring back a Fan Edition phone this year after skipping the Galaxy S22 FE. According to Hankooki, a South Korean publication (via SamMobile), Samsung is planning to launch the Galaxy S23 FE in august or September.
Samsung first launched its FE line in 2020 with the Galaxy S20 FE. At the time, Samsung said it would launch a Fan Edition phone yearly to supplement its flagship Galaxy S series with a more affordable alternative. However, the company failed to launch any new FE models after the Galaxy S21 FE.
The new report suggests that the Galaxy S23 FE will replace the Galaxy A74 this year to join the current Galaxy S23 lineup. The latter would have been the most high-end A series phones this year, after last year’s Galaxy A73 which introduced 108MP cameras to the range. If the Galaxy S23 FE is indeed a replacement for the Galaxy A74, we could see it gain a 200MP sensor at a mid-range price point.
Furthermore, the Korean publication reports that Samsung could discontinue the A7 line altogether so it doesn’t eat into the S23 FE’s market share. The company is expected to finalize its fate next year after analyzing the sales of the new FE.
