Samsung Galaxy S23 vs Galaxy S22: What’s new – Times of India

Samsung has taken the cover off its latest high-end offering, the Galaxy S23 series, and with that comes the Galaxy S23, the vanilla model of the series. Unlike the previous iterations, there are not many huge upgrades, at least for the Galaxy S23. There are some things new and some that carry over from last year’s Galaxy S22. So, let’s find out what has improved and remains the same when it comes to the Galaxy S23 compared to the Galaxy S22 from last year.
Samsung Galaxy S23 vs Galaxy S22: Design and display
There is not much new happening when it comes to the design. The Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S22 look merely different, except for the separate camera modules that have been freed from the contour cut module we have seen for the last few years, having a much-streamlined design across the series.
Similar to Galaxy S22, the Galaxy S23 comes in two sizes – 6.1 inches, that is, the vanilla model, and 6.6 inches, which is rather known as the Galaxy S23+.
These two have flat AMOLED panels with a resolution of 1080×2340 pixels, an adaptive refresh rate of 120Hz, and HDR10+ playback support. These are the same as the year; the only improvement is that the display can go as bright as 1750 nits, up from 1300 nits on the Galaxy S22 and S22+.
Samsung Galaxy S23 vs Galaxy S22: Performance
The most significant difference between the Galaxy S23 and the Galaxy S22 is that the Galaxy S23 has Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which is also faster than Qualcomm has given to others. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 inside the Galaxy S23 has a higher clock speed of 3.6GHz, compared to the 3.32GHz of the vanilla silicon. The last year’s Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ were powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset.
The Galaxy S23 comes in two storage options – 128GB and 256GB. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S23+ also has two options but in trims of 256GB and 512GB. The two sizes come in a single RAM option of 8GB.
Even there is a little upgrade in the battery capacity of the two smartphones. The Galaxy S23 has a 3900mAh battery, up from the 3700mAh on the Galaxy S22. While the Galaxy S23+ has a 4700mAh battery, an extra 200mAh than what was inside the Galaxy S22+. The charging speed still tops out at 25W for Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+.
Galaxy S23 vs Galaxy S22: Cameras
The cameras are not stacked together, but they are the same – a 50MP main camera, a 12MP ultrawide, and 10MP telephoto unit with 3x zoom. However, on the front, there is a minor bump from a 10MP camera to 12MP.
Samsung says that they have done some improvements behind the scenes that would offer better shots at night, including portraits. Even the HDR has been improved, and users will be able to shoot 50MP images in the RAW mode.
Galaxy S23 vs Galaxy S22: Price in India
The Samsung Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ start at Rs 74,999 and Rs 94,999 in India, respectively. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S22 was launched in India for Rs 72,999, but after the latest price cut, the smartphone is available for Rs 57,999. The Galaxy S22+ comes at Rs 84,999.
