Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra camera may offer all-new telephoto zoom tech: Report
What the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra could offer
While it is not clear as to exactly what this significantly new technology may offer, the report, by noted tipster Ice Universe, claims that Samsung will adopt “a new solution” for its telephoto and zoom offering. The report, interestingly, comes a day after fellow Korean electronics brand, LG, unveiled a ‘true’ telephoto zoom smartphone camera lens, with a precision actuator and moving lens parts, for ‘true’ optical zoom on smartphones.
It could be possible that the new solution in question alludes to this. At the moment, Samsung’s ‘Ultra’ flagship version uses two telephoto lenses, both with fixed focal ranges. This means that in, for instance, the upcoming Galaxy S23 Ultra, the latter will be able to offer optical quality zoom at its standard 1x focal length, as well as at 3x and 10x focal lengths. However, any point in between, which is what most people may anyway end up using, will be a digital zoom offering where the camera will crop into a sensor to give an impression of better quality zoom.
All of this, however, are only rumours for the moment, and it cannot be said for sure if this is what the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra could offer. For now, Samsung is expected to equip the S23 Ultra with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, up to 12GB RAM and 1TB storage, and a quad rear camera with a 200MP main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide or portrait camera, and two telephoto cameras offering the said 3x and 10x telephoto zooms.
It could also get a 5,000mAh battery with 45W fast charging, and an Apple iPhone 14-like emergency satellite connectivity feature in select markets.
