Samsung Knox Matrix blockchain-based security solution launched: What is it, how will it work and more

Samsung is betting big on SmartThings, a platform that allows users to manage and control their smart home devices. At the Samsung Developer Conference (SDC) 2022, the South Korean technology giant announced an updated vision for SmartThings that will have a deeper integration with its smart assistant Bixby. As the smart home becomes more advanced, it needs a better security system and Samsung’s Knox Matrix is a solution to keep you protected.
“With Samsung Knox Matrix, we envision that users need not compromise on their connectivity in order to stay protected. Samsung Knox Matrix is set to provide the devices within a user’s ecosystem with fewer vulnerabilities through strong, diverse security practices,” the company said in a blog post.
What is Samsung Knox Matrix
Samsung Knox Matrix is the company’s security solution that will protect all smart home devices from external threats. The solution enables Samsung devices to protect each other even if they are based on different operating systems, including Android, Tizen, and others.

How Samsung Knox Matrix works
Samsung Knox Matrix functions as a user’s own private blockchain system, wherein all the connected devices such as ACs, TVs, refrigerator, lights, among others collectively enhance security through multi-layered mutual monitoring. The solution essentially turns all devices to work as a single shield against cyber attacks.
Samsung says that when it comes to the login process, Samsung Knox Matrix will share credentials among the connected devices and “protect sensitive information even between trusted devices.” In this way, the user’s smart home will be protected from unauthorised access. This password sharing will happen even if the connected devices run different operating systems.

“Whether your Samsung devices are based on Android, Tizen, or other OS, Samsung Knox Matrix will be able to provide a unified security SDK,” Samsung said.
Apart from providing collective security, the Samsung Knox Matrix will also allow users to customise personal privacy settings in the new Security and privacy dashboard. The dashboard scans for vulnerabilities, recommends security updates and enables users to manage data with various options to keep privacy and security up-to-date.
Samsung Knox vs Samsung Knox Matrix
Samsung currently offers Knox – its proprietary security and management framework comes pre-installed on most Samsung smartphones. While Knox offers protection to mobile phones, Samsung Knox Matrix provides security to all connected devices in a smart home, including phones.
