Samsung owns up to mistake after using iPhone photos in promotion –

TL;DR

  • Samsung recently depicted iPhones while promoting its services on its own app.
  • The company admitted its mistake and fixed the promotional image with Galaxy devices.

Someone at Samsung made a classic mistake every company wants to avoid — promoting a rival’s product.

A person in charge of updating the Samsung Members app in South Korea used images of an iPhone for a banner promoting Samsung themes. Users quickly picked up on the error and shared images of the banner on Samsung’s community forum.

While the picture doesn’t explicitly show specific iPhone models, they are definitely not Samsung phones. All three devices depicted on the banner have wide notches that scream iPhone.

“It seems that there are some Samsung Electronics employees who do not use Samsung phones,” a user commented on Samsung’s forum. “Judging by the size of the bezel and notch, it looks like iPhone X, XS, 11PRO,” said another.

Meanwhile, Samsung was quick to own up to its mistake. A Galaxy Store incharge posted the following comment on the forum post:

Hello, this is Galaxy Store. The person in charge made a mistake in the process of modifying the design source file. The banner image will be modified and replaced today. Thank you for your interest in Galaxy service. We will try to provide better service.

The banner was later changed to depict a phone with a centered punch-hole, much like the Galaxy S22 series.

Samsung has made similar mistakes before. It was recently caught praising the Oppo Find N on Twitter in a bid to promote foldable phones. The company has also tweeted from iPhones on multiple occasions. Hopefully, it learns from its mistakes and doesn’t commit such a tech faux pas in the future.
