At CES 2022, Samsung demonstrated several new foldable display concepts including dual-folding smartphones and foldable laptops. Now, the company has reportedly received a patent for a new type of foldable laptop. According to a report by SamMobile, the Korean giant has got a patent for a convertible laptop with detachable foldable display. The report further reveals that the design was recently approved and published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
As per the report, the unique kind of laptop from Samsung has two major components just like any other convertible laptop – a screen and keyboard base. What makes this device unique apart from the detachable foldable display is the keyboard base capable of splitting in half. According to the report, each part of the keyboard has its own battery and input circuits. It also further reveals that only one half of the keyboard conceals a processor and a microcontroller.
The report suggests that the convertible area of the device could be quite small when folded and detached which will make it compact and easy to carry around. The upper part could be used as a large foldable tablet. The company has not officially revealed any information about such devices but the application gives a hint about the products that the tech giant may be exploring.
Patents filed by tech companies to always make it to actual products and if Samsung is planning to launch a convertible laptop with detachable foldable display, it may take a few years. The company is reportedly gearing up to launch the Samsung Galaxy S22 series along with the latest Exynos chipset at a Galaxy Unpacked 2022 event next month. The upcoming lineup is rumoured to have three devices – Samsung Galaxy S22, Samsung Galaxy S22+ and Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra.
