samsung: Samsung may ‘kill’ one of its most popular smartphones – Times of India

It has been in the works for a while now and won’t come as a surprise but it looks like the Samsung Galaxy Note series of smartphones will soon fade into oblivion. Samsung didn’t launch a new Galaxy Note smartphone this year and officially confirmed it had no plans to do so and now a new report suggests that the production of older models is also being shelved.
According to a report by ETNews, Samsung is allegedly set to end production of the Galaxy Note 20 series — what now looks like the last phone in the series — by the end of this year. Samsung had been manufacturing the phone till now but that is set to end. The report further reveals that in 2021, Samsung sold about 3.2 million devices of Note 20 series. The number has dropped down from close to 10 million in 2020, suggesting that the Note series has been one of Samsung’s most popular models.

What happens to the Note series now?

The Note series has always been distinct from the flagship Galaxy S series from Samsung. While the features were more or less the same, the support for a stylus — S Pen — made the Note series popular amongst a lot of buyers. It is now expected that the stylus support may make its way to the S22 series, which is expected to launch in February 2022. Also, Samsung has been betting big on its foldable phones like Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Flip. Interestingly, 2021 was also the first year when S Pen support came to the Galaxy Fold series. With flagship foldables and the S series, it would seem that having three series of premium phones was a bit too much for Samsung. The South Korean giant hasn’t officially confirmed the end of the Note series but the writing has been on the wall for quite a while now.
