samsung: Samsung rolls out security update for these five year-old Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones – Times of India
Samsung has surprised Galaxy S8 and S8+ users with an unexpected software update even after ending the support cycle of these two devices a long time ago.The Korean smartphone giant released the last security update for its 5-year-old devices in September 2021 and now it has rolled out another security patch for these devices.
SamMobile reports that the firmware update version is named G95xFXXUCDUK1 and has been released in France with the possibility to expand to more markets over the upcoming days. The new security update resolves several security and privacy related issues.
If you own a Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ and are a resident of France, you might have already been notified about the new update. If you haven’t received the notification yet, you can install the update manually by going to Settings and then Software update and select the Download button to install it. You can also use a firmware database to download the new firmware file and flash it
Samsung launched both the Galaxy S8 and the S8+ in 2017 and it came with Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box. The devices got Android 8.0 in 2018 and in 2019 it got the One UI update based on Android 9 Pie. Having the latest security update on your phone is always a good thing, but Samsung has no plans for rolling out a big OS update for these devices so one should not get their hopes up for Android 10 or 11.
