Samsung’s base model Galaxy S23 may feature slower storage – Times of India

Samsung’s next high-end Galaxy S23 series is set to break cover soon. The Galaxy S23 series will consist of three models – Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra. The three models are expected to come with some incremental specifications upgrade, including a new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, faster UFS 4.0 storage, and LPDDR6 RAM. But, one of the Galaxy S23 models may miss out on faster storage.
Tipster Ice Universe suggests that the base storage variant of the vanilla Galaxy S23 with 128GB of storage would not be of the new UFS 4.0 standard. Instead, the 128GB storage would be the older UFS 3.1 chip. As per the tipster, the reason is that Samsung does not make a 128GB UFS 4.0 chip. Thus, slower storage for those who buy the 128GB model of the Galaxy S23.
The new UFS 4.0 storage offers write speeds of up to 4200 MB/s and write speeds of up to 2800 MB/s. The new storage standard is said to be 46 per cent more power efficient than the older UFS 3.1 storage standard.
Samsung Galaxy S23: What to expect
The Galaxy S23 is not expected to be a major overhaul compared to the Galaxy S22. The new smartphone would have a slightly different design, ditching the contour-cut camera module for a separate camera design.
Under the hood, the Galaxy S23 will have the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which may be specially customised for the Galaxy S23 series having a slightly higher clock speed of 3.6GHz.
Except for the 128GB storage configuration, other storage options would be UFS 4.0 standard. Further, the smartphone could come with up to 8GB of LPDDR6 RAM.
The camera configuration is expected to remain the same as the Galaxy S22, having a 50MP main sensor, 12MP ultrawide, and a 10MP telephoto unit. On the front, the smartphone may come with a 10MP selfie camera.
Samsung’s Galaxy S23 could come with a slightly bigger 3900mAH battery with support for 25W charging.
