TL;DR

  • Samsung has claimed that Galaxy Z4 shipments doubled in Europe over last year’s foldables.
  • It didn’t reveal specific shipment figures in this regard.
  • The Galaxy Z Flip 4 accounted for 60% of sales in the region so far.

Samsung has a long-term plan to make foldable phones mainstream devices, and it’s certainly achieved more sales success with each successive generation of Fold and Flip devices. However, it looks like the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 are helping in a big way thanks to initial sales.

“Shipments of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Galaxy Z Flip 4 doubled those of previous models in the European market, as the first sales figures of the new products reached an all-time high in Europe,” Samsung European marketing chief Benjamin Braun noted at a press conference at IFA 2022 (h/t: Korea Times).

Samsung didn’t dish out specific shipment figures for Europe for the new devices or for last year’s foldables. So we don’t have a completely accurate picture of the form factor’s popularity in the region. But it nevertheless suggests that Galaxy foldables are seeing plenty of momentum here.

The company also noted that the Galaxy Z Flip 4 accounted for 60% of sales in Europe compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 4’s 40%. For what it’s worth, Samsung previously said that 70% of its foldables shipped globally last year were Flip devices compared to 30% for the Fold form factor. Either way, it’s not a surprise to see the Flip device accounting for the majority of sales due to its cheaper price.
