Slack names new CEO as Stewart Butterfield decides to leave in January – Times of India

Slack CEO Stewart Butterfield has announced that he will be stepping down from his role in January 2023. The development comes a few days after Salesforce co-CEO Bret Taylor announced that he is leaving the company. Slack is owned by Salesforce and the professional instant messaging platform was launched in India earlier this year.
“Stewart is an incredible leader who created an amazing, beloved company in Slack. He has helped lead the successful integration of Slack into Salesforce and today Slack is woven into the Salesforce Customer 360 platform,” the company said in a statement.
Lidiane Jones will be Slack’s new CEO
Slack Technologies also announced that Lidiane Jones, who has been the executive vice president and general manager for digital experiences clouds at Salesforce, would succeed Butterfield. In fact, reports claim that Stewart was instrumental in choosing Jones, who has a strong background in customer and enterprise tech, as the next Slack CEO.
Jones also tweeted about her new job:

“To the Slack team, I could not be more excited to work with you, and the future is looking bright. Let’s get to building the future of work!” she said in a tweet.
Slack India launch
Earlier this year, Slack announced its entry into the Indian market with an emphasis on the need of having a ‘Digital Headquarters.’
“Adopting Slack as a Digital HQ allows Indian companies to connect their teams, tools, customers, and partners in a digital place that’s fast, flexible and inclusive for a work-from-anywhere world,” Slack said in a statement.
The company said that it had been operating in India for four years, establishing a product engineering team in Pune in 2018. At the time of its official launch of operations in the country, the Slack India team had over 120 employees across four offices in Pune, Mumbai, Bangalore and Gurgaon.
