Smartphones launching this week: iPhone 14 series, POCO M5, Moto Edge 30 Ultra and more
The month of September has finally started and with it, we can expect a bunch of smartphone announcements like never before. We will be welcomed by the most-anticipated iPhone 14 series, which will be debuting at the ‘Far Out’ event on September 7th. This is the most hyped-up announcement for the month. This will be followed by a bunch of other launches from other brands like Motorola, POCO, Redmi, and even Huawei. These announcements should keep the world of tech busy and excited.
Here’s a closer look at the phones and their specifications launching next week. Let’s get started.
1. iPhone 14 series – September 7th
The iPhone 14 series is set to launch on September 7th at the ‘Far Out’ event. The lineup is expected to include four models: the standard iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus/Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The standard iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro will have a 6.1-inch display, while the iPhone 14 Max/Plus and iPhone Pro Max will get a larger 6.7-inch screen. The Pro models this year will get an LTPO display with an adaptive refresh rate and possibly an always-on-display functionality for the first time.
The Pro models will arrive with a new A16 chipset for performance improvements, 48MP primary camera and there are rumours that we might see a slightly fast charging support. Speculations are rife that Apple might ditch the 128GB storage version for a 256GB model. If rumours are to be believed, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will get a new pill-shaped punch-hole design for the Face ID and front camera sensors. There are chances we might get a slightly bigger capacity battery.
iPhone 14 series price: iPhone 14 series price is said to be slightly higher than the iPhone 13 series. The lineup might start at $749 and go up to $1149 for the Pro Max model.
2. POCO M5 and POCO M5s – September 5th/6th
The POCO M5 and POCO M5s are set to launch globally on September 6th. However, the company will be unveiling the POCO M5 in India on September 5th. It arrives as the successor to the POCO M4 and should bring some notable improvements. The POCO M5 is confirmed to be powered by the MediaTek Helio G99 chipset and will pack a 5000mAh battery that might have fast charging support. The handset will arrive with triple cameras on the back and a 90Hz refresh rate. The handset will have a leather finish on the back.
On the other hand, the POCO M5s will come with an AMOLED display, centre-positioned punch-hole cutout, triple camera sensors on the back, and stereo speakers. POCO M5s will be sold in Black, Blue, and White colour options. However, the rest of the specifications are under wraps, for now.
POCO M5 and POCO M5s prices: The POCO M5 is said to be priced at EUR 189 (around Rs 15,000) for the 4GB + 64GB model, while the 4GB + 128GB version will cost EUR 209 (approx Rs 16,600).
On the other hand, the POCO M5s will be available in 4GB+64GB and 4GB + 128GB models and they will carry a price tag of EUR 229 (approx Rs 18,200) and EUR 249 (around Rs 19,800).
3. Redmi 11 Prime 5G and Redmi 11 Prime September 6th
Redmi 11 Prime 5G and Redmi 11 Prime 4G are launching in India on September 6th as a successor to the Redmi 10 Prime. The former is tipped to be a rebrand of the Redmi Note 11E that debuted in China, while the latter is speculated to be similar to the POCO M5. The specifications of the phone could be similar.
This means the Redmi 11 Prime 5G will sport a 6.58-inch FHD+ IPS LCD display with a 90Hz refresh rate. It will be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 700 SoC coupled with up to 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. It is likely to boot Android 12 OS with MIUI custom skin out of the box and pack a 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging support. Connectivity features include 5G, 4G, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, and a USB Type-C port. Moving to optics, the Redmi 11 Prime will have dual cameras, with a 50MP primary sensor paired with a 2MP depth sensor. The phone will have a 5MP snapper on the front for selfies and video chats.
Redmi 11 Prime 4G could be the same as POCO M5 which will launch in India on September 6th. It could get the MediaTek Helio G99 chipset, 5000mAh battery, and 90Hz refresh rate.
Redmi 11 Prime and 11 Prime 5G: We can expect the prices of both phones to be under Rs 15,000.
4. Moto Edge 30 Ultra and Edge 30 Fusion- September 8th
Moto India has scheduled an event on September 8th, where it will be launching the Moto Edge 30 Ultra and Edge 30 Fusion. These are said to be rebrands of the Moto X30 Pro and Moto S30 Pro that debuted in China last month. The Moto Edge 30 Ultra will be the first phone in India to come with a 200MP camera sensor on the back and will arrive with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip.
Moto Edge 30 Ultra: Moto Edge 30 Ultra flaunts a 6.67-inch Full-HD+ OLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and a punch-hole cutout for the selfie snapper. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip with Adreno GPU for graphics, up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB UFS3.1 storage. The phone runs on Android 12-based MyUX skin out of the box.
Moving to optics, the Moto Edge 30 Ultra will have triple cameras, with a 200MP primary sensor with 16-in-1 pixel binning, OIS, and 8K video at 30fps. The primary camera will be paired with 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 12MP telephoto sensor. There is a 60MP snapper at the front for selfies and video chats.
The Moto Edge 30 Ultra houses a 4,500mAh battery with 125W GaN fast charging support. Connectivity features include 5G, 4G, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, and USB Type-C port for charging. There is an in-display fingerprint sensor for security.
Moto Edge 30 Fusion: Moto Edge 30 Fusion sports a 6.55-inch Full-HD+ AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and a punch-hole cutout for the selfie shooter. Powering the phone is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ SoC paired with Adreno GPU, up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage. The Moto Edge 30 Fusion boots Android 12 OS out of the box.
The Moto Edge 30 Fusion packs a 4,400mAh battery that supports 68W fast charging. The phone comes with triple cameras on the back, with a 50MP primary sensor, a 12MP secondary lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. There is an 8MP shooter on the front for selfies and video chats.
Prices: The Moto Edge 30 Ultra will be a premium flagship and should be priced upwards of Rs 60,000, if not even more. On the other hand, the Moto Edge 30 Fusion could be priced around Rs 40,000.
5. Huawei Mate 50 – September 6th
Huawei Mate 50 series will be introduced on September 6th. These will arrive as successors to the Huawei Mate 40 lineup from 2020 and should almost remain familiar. The phones could run on the latest Harmony OS 3 that was recently unveiled. Not much is known about the Mate 50 series but we can speculate cameras will be the main focus and might have a circular module on the back. They are confirmed to feature variable apertures for impressive results.
The Huawei Mate 50 Pro is said to come with a quad camera setup on the back, with a 50MP Sony IMX766 primary sensor, a 13MP ultra-wide Sony IMX688 sensor, a 40MP black and white Sony IMX600 lens and a 64MP 3.5x periscope sensor. The cameras will rely on the in-house XMAGE technology for image processing and will include a HiSilicon NPU.
