Snapchat launches Diwali AR Lens: Here’s what it does – Times of India

Snapchat has encouraged users on its platform to support local sweet shops by giving them a unique Augmented Reality (AR) Diwali makeover through the Diwali AR Lens. The Diwali AR Lens lets users decorate their chosen mithai shop with firecrackers, diyas and floral decor. For the AR Diwali makeover, Snap Lens Network Creators have identified specific local sweet shops.
In the run-up to Diwali, Spotlight – Snapchat’s community-driven entertainment video platform, is hosting a #LightUpSpotlight showcase where creators can share their Diwali-themed videos- from outfits and dance routines to recipes for festive celebrations.
Snapchat is taking over all the 5 tabs on its app this Diwali, with each tab it is offering something special for Snapchatters to explore.

The Maps tab while bursting with firecrackers will include action mojis, lights, diyas and lanterns.
Snapchatters can use the Chat tab to wish their friends and family using the festive themed Bitmoji and cameo stickers while the Camera tab will have several unique Diwali AR lenses and geo filters made accessible to users to notch up the festivities this October.
Snap has also launched new Bitmojis, new festive AR lenses and Stickers.
“At Snap, our focus is on localising the app experience for our Snapchatter community in India and these cultural moments are at the heart of it. This year we want to elevate the experience for our users through this special Diwali makeover AR Lens where they can hero their favourite mithai shops thus also promoting and encouraging small business owners.
We have also introduced a range of exciting creative tools for our community to engage with across our 5 tabs. We are positive that our efforts to hero local businesses and add an element of sparkle to Diwali celebrations will resonate with Snapchatters across the country,” said Lakshya Malu, India Market Development at Snap Inc.
