Snapchat users furious as app still down despite a fix being released

It’s been a really rough night for most Snapchat users with the popular chat app suffering some serious gremlins overnight. The issues began at around midnight with thousands of fans being hit by a bug that caused the application to constantly crash on both iPhone and Android.

Snapchat immediately admitted that it was having difficulties with a message on Twitter confirming: “We’re aware of an issue preventing some Snapchatters from logging in. Hang tight, we are looking into it and working on a fix!”

Almost five hours after the first reports began flooding in, Snapchat then announced that it had solved the problem with the support team asking users to update the app on their devices.

A post, again on Twitter, said: “The issue has been resolved. If you’re still having trouble, please manually update your app in the App Store!”

That’s great news we hear you shout, but it’s not good for everyone. Sadly, it seems many users are following these instructions and still not having any luck accessing the app. Twitter is flooded with angry fans tweeting that they still can’t use the app or send Snaps to friends and family.

In réponse to the Snapchat tweet, one user said: “No it’s not, my credentials cannot be found, I’ve updated both the app and my phone, restarted my phone, changed my password and reinstalled, not working.”

Whilst another added: “I’ve tried everything. it locked me out of my acc for no reason. it lets me in for 1-3 minutes and then kicks me out again which makes no sense because if it’s locked why can I still get in at all? I can’t make another Snapchat because it locks me out of it as soon as I create”

Although many are still struggling one user reckons they have found the fix with a post saying: “So I got it working. I went to the AppStore and instead of clicking open I clicked on the Snapchat logo and it opened it full screen. Then the update option became available. I updated it and it’s been working fine. You’re welcome.”

It’s unclear what the best solution is with some users suggesting the best way to get things back to normal is to delete the app and reinstall it.
