Snapdragon 888: This may be Qualcomm’s successor to the Snapdragon 888 chipset – Times of India

The Snapdragon 888 happens to be the most powerful Qualcomm mobile chipset yet but rumours about its successor have begun circulating. According to a report by GizChina, the successor to SD 888 will be a 4nm processor with a model number SM8450, based on Kryo 780 processor cores. The chipset could reportedly be composed of customised Cortex-X2 and Cortex-A710 cores, and there could be a separate cluster with Cortex-A510 cores.
Also, the report claims that the Adreno 660 in Snapdragon 888 would be replaced by Adreno 730 in the new chipset, which is said to improve the graphics performance. Apart from Adreno 730, the rumoured Qualcomm chipset is expected to come with a Spectra 680 image processor, an Adreno 665 video processing unit, an Adreno 1195 display unit, Snapdragon X65 5G modem and support for up to 1 GHz downlink mmWave and 400 MHz Sub-6 D.
Tipster Evan Blass has also claimed via a tweet that “SM8450 is Qualcomm’s next-gen premium system-on-chip (SoC). It has an integrated Snapdragon X65 5G Modem-RF system. It is a 4nm process chip.”

The key components, as revealed by him, are Kryo 780 CPU built on Arm Cortex v9 technology, Adreno 730 GPU, Adreno 665 video processing unit (VPU), Adreno 1195 display processing unit (DPU), Spectra 680 ISP, Up to 1GHz mmWave downlink and 400MHz Sub-6 D, support for Qualcomm Aqstic WCD9380/WCD9385 audio codec, Qualcomm secure processing unit (SPU260), support for Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 subsystem and support for quad-channel package-on-package LPDDR5 RAM.
