Some Twitter employees receive severance but they are not happy: Here’s why – Times of India
According to federal laws in the state of California, Twitter is required to pay sacked employees regular paychecks after the termination for the last two months. This 60-day period ended on January 4, 2023. Elon Musk, at the time of firing employees, said that all the employees that were sacked were “offered 3 months of severance.”
Citing multiple sources familiar with the matter, Fortune reports that after delays this week, some former Twitter employees received their official severance agreements, however, the compensation is much less than what many expected. The report also says that the emails were in such a format that they landed in their spam folders.
Musk’s ’employee’ problem
It seems Musk is still undecided on how many employees he needs to work on his plan to make Twitter a cash cow and not make the platform a “free-for-all hellscape.” After firing over 50% of Twitter workers, Musk in November said in an all-hands meeting with Twitter employees that the company was done with layoffs and was recruiting for roles in engineering and sales. He was also encouraged to make referrals, as per The Verge.
However, firing continued after the announcement and as per a report by Bloomberg, Twitter has cut more staff from the global content moderation team. The report says that about a dozen people were laid off from Twitter on Friday (January 6) and included employees that handled misinformation and state media.
Last week, reports claimed that Twitter employees are being told to bring their toilet tissue to the workplace as the company has laid off janitorial workers.
