Sonos issues Black Friday warning, but you can secure discounts now

Sonos has advised its customers to start shopping today to beat the “high demand and limited supply” in the weeks running up to Christmas. The warning can be found on the popular audio brand’s homepage as it promotes its annual Gift Guide, which categories its products based on the sort of person you’re shopping for – the movie buff, the new parent, the nostalgist, for example. Clicking on any of these categories will bring up a webpage with a selection of products, music selection from the free-to-stream Sonos Radio service that’s available to anyone with its speakers, and more. It’s a fun way to browse Sonos’ selection of speakers, rather than comparing number-dense spec sheets.

However, most shoppers will be holding off adding a new Sonos product to their basket for now. Black Friday falls on Friday November 26 this year. The bombastic sales event sees thousands of retailers slash their prices – offering some serious bargains to shoppers looking to stock up ahead of Christmas. And Sonos is no exception.

The audio brand slashed £100 off the price of its Sonos Beam soundbar, Sonos Sub subwoofer and portable Sonos Move, with the Sonos One and Sonos One SL (which looks identical but forgoes the AI voice assistant in favour of a smaller price tag) getting reduced by £40 each in the sales last year.

While discounts to the Sonos One aren’t all that uncommon throughout the year, we’d never seen a price drop for the Sonos Move until Black Friday. Likewise, the £100 discounts were also a great time to pick up the Sonos Beam to bring immersive sound to your flatscreen telly, with the option of adding the Sonos Sub for some floor-rumbling bass. Whether you were looking to invest in a single smart speaker for the kitchen, or splash the cash and build a 5.0 home cinema set-up (using one Sonos Beam and two Sonos One speakers) there were some brilliant savings to be had shopping in the Black Friday sales.

Unfortunately, there’s no word on whether Sonos will repeat the same deals – or offer some even better – this time around. Since last year, the company has launched a new Dolby Atmos-compatible soundbar, Sonos Arc, and updated its Beam with a second-generation model with an improved design and sound. The company has also added a second portable addition to its line-up, the Sonos Roam. So, there’s potential to secure some brilliant discounts on all-new gadgets.

If the company’s warning of “limited supply” has got you worried (after all, nobody wants an empty box to open on Christmas morning), there’s still a way to secure some brilliant discounts ahead of Black Friday. That’s because Sonos offers a number of certified refurbished products on its online store.

These speakers have all been revived by the technicians at Sonos and arrive in the same packaging as brand-new speakers. According to Sonos, its certified refurbished products “are thoroughly tested to ensure standard Sonos quality”. They even ship with the same one-year warranty as its new models.

But the difference is the price. While a new Sonos One SL from Sonos will set you back £179, the same speaker can be bought as certified refurbished for just £129. That’s a £50 saving. Even during the limited Black Friday sales last year, Sonos only reduced the price of its Sonos One speakers down by £40. So you’re getting a better deal than its Black Friday discounts – and no worries about limited stock as everyone rushes to order on the same day.

When bought refurbished from Sonos, the Sonos Move drops from £399 to £289 and the Sonos Beam (first generation) costs £289 compared to £449 for a brand-new, second-generation Sonos Beam soundbar. There’s also £100 off the price of the all-singing, all-dancing Sonos Arc too.
