sony: Sony has sold about 13.4 million PS5 units – Times of India

Sony has sold a total of 13.4 million PS5 units to date, as per the records released by the company. According to the records, the company sold 3.3 million units in fiscal Q2 compared to 2.2 million last quarter. The game sales have also seen an uptick, with 76.4 million units selling compared to 63.6 million in the previous quarter, helped mostly by third-party purchases. All this has led to the Japanese tech giant reaping 27% more revenue with 645.4 billion yen ($5.68 billion).
On the other hand, despite the sales and revenue boom, the operating income of 82.7 billion yen ($728 million) was down by 3.4 billion yen ($29 million) when compared to last quarter, due to fewer first-party sales of games and less PS4 units selling. The PS4 sales have come down to just 200,000 from a half a million in the previous quarter. Other factors include “loss resulting from strategic price points for PS5 hardware that were set lower than manufacturing costs.”, as per Sony.
Sony announced three games for PlayStation Plus this month. The titles are Mortal Kombat X, PGA Tour 2K21 and Hell Let Loose. While gamers would be familiar with the Mortal Kombat title, the PGA Tour 2K21 lets you “compete against the world’s best golfers on stunning, real-life courses”. Hell Let Loose is a first-person shooter set during World War 2. The game has 50 vs. 50 matches in various multiplayer modes across nine maps.
